Cars with internal combustion engines that use gasoline or diesel were invented more than a hundred years ago. For all the time, they have been a major means of transportation. However, their biggest side effect is air pollution due to exhaust gases. With stronger regulations to crack down on such environmental issues, eco-friendly cars became necessary. Major carmakers across the globe are upping their efforts to develop and commercialize electric cars and hydrogen cars. More likely than not, one of the two methods will top the heap in the future. Electric cars are in the lead now, because their production costs are lower and charging facilities are easy to install. However, they are limited by long charging times and their length of range. In any case, eco-friendly cars will become the norm in the near future.

휘발유나 경유로 움직이는 내연 기관으로 된 자동차는 발명된 지 100년이 지났다. 그 오랜 세월 동안 대중적인 교통수단으로 이용되어 왔다. 그러나 배기가스로 인한 대기 오염이 가장 큰 부작용이다. 이러한 환경 문제를 단속하는 규제가 점점 강화되면서, 친환경 자동차들이 필요하게 되었다. 전 세계 대형 자동차 회사들은 전기 차와 수소 자의 개발과 상용화에 박차를 가하고 있다. 두 방식 중에 하나가 차세대 중심으로 자리잡을 가능성이 높다. 현재는 전기 차가 제조 단가가 더 저렴하고 충전 시설의 설치가 용이하기 때문에 우위에 있다. 하지만 충전 시간이 길고 주행 거리가 짦은 문제점이 있다. 어쨌든 머지않아 친환경 자동차는 대세가 될 것이다.
