The job market in Korea is very tight. Youth unemployment is at an all-time high. Because of the sluggish economy, companies aren’t hiring new employees. On the contrary, they are laying off workers to cut costs. As a result, many young people are spending a lot of time preparing for employment and job-hunting. Also, many people who used to work are between jobs. Job-seekers study languages and obtain certifications. This way, they can build up their resumes. Some dishonest people even pad their resumes. A lot of Korean youngsters are also studying to take civil service examinations. Jobs in government agencies are considered to be stable.

한국의 취업난은 심각한 상태이다. 청년 실업이 역대 최고 수준이다. 경기가 좋지 않다 보니 기업들이 신규 채용을 하지 않는다. 오히려 반대로 비용 감축을 위해 감원을 하고 있다. 상황이 이렇다 보니, 많은 젊은이들이 오랜 기간 동안 취업 준비를 하고 구직 활동을 한다. 또 예전에 일을 하던 사람들도 구직 중인 경우가 많다. 구직자들은 어학 공부도 하고 자격증을 딴다. 이렇게 해야 이력서를 보강할 수 있다. 일부 정직하지 못한 사람들은 심지어 이력서를 거짓으로 부풀린다 한편, 수많은 한국 젊은이들이 공무원 시험을 보려고 공부를 하고 있다. 정부 기관의 일자리는 안정적이라고 여겨지기 때문이다.
