A Proposed Sea Wall to Protect New York
After years of denial by many people in power, the reality of climate change is undeniable. Ever-larger storms are hitting the world's coast lines and rising sea levels are the new reality. Solutions are being proposed now to save large cities from inevitable, including New York.

After a massive hurricane flooded New York City and surrounding areas in 2012, the city's vulnerability to rising sea levels and storm surges became clear. One proposal is a huge sea wall that would be placed in New York Harbor. But is it too little, too late? At an estimated cost of $114 billion, many people are calling it an expensive shot in the dark. Many cities around the world, like London, St. Petersburg, and Venice, have built or are building sea walls with varying results. In most cases, blocking the natural tides has caused environmental problems. But it nothing can be done, it may be the end of the line for the "city that never sleeps" in the next 30 years.
