Talk about the increasing trend of having pets in Korea.
The pet owner population in Korea is at around 10 million. More and more people are raising dogs, cats, or exotic animals in their homes. To them, pets are no different from family. I recently adopted a dog from an animal shelter. Right away, I took her to the vet for a check-up. The doctor’s final diagnosis was that she was very healthy. He gave her vaccinations for diseases like rabies. He also applied heartworm and parasite preventives. The vet gave me advice on housebreaking my dog and proper training. He was very friendly and said I could call at any time if anything went wrong with my dog. I plan to have my dog groomed to look prettier soon. I hope she will be happy with me for a long time.

한국에서 반려동물을 키우는 인구가 대략 천만 명에 육박하고 있다. 점점 더 많은 사람들이 개, 고양이, 혹은 이색적인 동물을 집 안에서 키우고 있다. 그들에게는 이러한 반려동물이 가족이나 다름이 없다. 나도 최근 동물 보호소에서 강아지 한 마리를 입양했다. 곧바로 강아지를 동물병원에 데려가서 건강 검진을 했다. 수의사가 강아지의 건강이 매우 건강한 편이라고 최종적으로 진단해 줬다. 광견병 예방 등 몇 가지 예방 접종을 맞히기도 했다. 더불어, 심장사상충과 기생충을 예방하는 약을 발라 주기도 했다. 수의사는 또한 강아지의 배변 훈련과 올바른 교육에 대해 조언을 해 주었다. 강아지에게 문제가 생기면 언제든지 문의를 하라고 친절하게 안내를 해 주었다. 조만간 강아지에게 예쁘게 미용도 시켜 줄 예정이다. 이 강아지가 오래오래 나와 행복하게 잘 살아 주면 좋겠다.
