Korea played host to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang. There was a lot of hype surrounding the first Winter Games in Korea and excitement reached a fever pitch. The Games kicked off with the opening ceremony on February 9th. It was a jaw-dropping spectacle. During the Games, Korea medaled in short track speed skating and speed skating sweeping the floor with rivals. Korea also had podium finishes in snow-boarding, bobsleigh, skeleton, and curling. In the end, Korea came in seventh place in the medal tally, with seventeen medals altogether. It was a best-ever showing for the Winter Olympics. I swelled with pride each time I saw Korean athletes take to the podium. It was very touching, and I felt overcome with emotion.

한국은 2018년에 동계 올림픽을 개최했다. 한국에서의 첫 동계 올림픽을 둘러싸고 숱한 화제가 있었고, 기대감이 절정에 달했다. 2월 9일에 열린 성대한 개막식을 시작으로 그 막을 올렸다. 개막식은 정말 입이 딱 벌이질 정도로 장관이었다. 한국은 쇼트트렉, 스피드 스케이딩에서 라이벌들을 압도하며 메달을 확보했다. 스노보드, 봅슬레이, 스켈레톤, 컬링 등에서도 메달을 땄다. 결국 17개로 메달 집계 종합 순위 7위에 오르면서, 동계 올림픽 역대 최고 성적을 기록했다. 한국 선수들이 시상대에 오르는 모습들을 볼 때마다 정말 자랑스러웠다. 가슴 벅찬 감동이 느껴졌다.
