(Dan is talking to his son Gabriel … )
Dan: Is tonight your second date with Katie?
Gabriel: Yes and I'm a little nervous.
Dan: That's okay. That's to be expected. Are you taking her out to dinner?
Gabriel: No, we did that on our first date. I thought I'd invite her to my apartment and make her dinner.
Dan: Very good. What are you going to make?
Gabriel: I'm going to bake some fish.
Dan: Play some soft music. That's always a nice touch.
Gabriel: I bought some flowers to spruce up the dinner table.
Dan: And light some candles for the full effect.
Gabriel: Thanks, dad. I'm learning from an old pro.

Earlier, we sprang for a leather sofa. It really helped to spruce up the living room.
I bought some flowers to spruce up the dinner table.
I also think about the restaurant’s atmosphere. The atmosphere can make or break a meal at a restaurant. I go to places where the atmosphere acts as a complement to the type of food. Most places these days spruce up the mood with one-of-a-kind styles.
However, these spaces have received a makeover as comic book cafes. The interior atmosphere has been spruced up with colorful designs including cartoon characters.
The house looked much better when we spruced it up.
