Talk about child discipline.
In Korea, parents teach their children about proper behavior from a young age. Children are taught to mind their manners and use honorifics when they are with grown-ups. If kids act rudely, their parents sharply scold them. Every parent has a different style of child discipline. Some try talking to persuade children not to misbehave. However, if things get out of hand, kids may be punished. Some parents make children write a letter of apology. The kids write down what they did wrong, and promise not to do it again. Some parents use the rod to teach their kids. However, corporal punishment is not as common as before. As the number of children drops, more parents are showering their kids with attention and affection.

한국의 부모들은 자녀에게 올바른 품행을 어린 나이부터 가르친다. 아이들은 어른 앞에서는 예의를 갖추고 존댓말을 사용하도록 교육받는다. 아이들이 버릇없이 굴면, 부모가 따끔히 혼을 내기도 한다. 훈육 방식은 각 부모마다 다르다. 아이들이 잘못을 하면, 말로 잘 타이르는 경우도 많다. 그러나 정도가 심하면, 어떤 경우 아이들에게 벌을 받게 한다. 어떤 부모는 반성문을 쓰게한다. 아이들이 반성문에 잘못한 행동과 앞으로 똑같이 행동하지 않겠다고 쓴다. 일부 부모들은 매를 통해 자녀를 가르치기도 한다. 그렇지만 매를 이용한 훈육 방법은 예전에 비해서는 많이 줄어들었다. 특히 자녀 수가 줄면서 자녀들에게 더 많은 관심과 애정을 쏟아 붇는 부모들이 많아졌다.
