College festivals are an indispensable part of campus culture in Korea. Most colleges have their festivals in May. May is the perfect time for a festival because the pretty flowers are in full bloom and the weather is clear and mild. Classes are held as usual during the festival period, but often they are shortened or canceled. Various event booths are installed here and there on campus. People can buy items like cosmetics, perfume, or soap at low prices. There are also booths for manicures or face painting. Bands and singers are also invited to perform until late into the night. During the festival period, food is also sold on school grounds. Various street foods are sold, as well as alcoholic drinks at one-day bars. Each department sells coupons that can be swapped for food. The profits sometimes go toward scholarships for students who are in need. Festivals are also a good opportunity for classmates, professors, and even school alumni to build school spirit.

한국에서 대학 축제는 빼놓을 수 없는 대학가 문화 중 하나다. 대부분의 대학들이 5월에 축제를 연다. 5월은 예쁜 꽃들도 활짝 피고 날씨도 화창하고 온화해서 축제를 하기에 가장 좋은 시기이다. 축제 기간에 수업들은 정상 진행되지만, 단축 수업이나 휴강을 하는 경우도 있다. 캠퍼스에는 각종 행사 부스가 여기저기 설치된다. 화장품, 향수, 비누와 같은 용품을 저렴한 비용에 살수도 있고, 네일아트나 페이스 페인팅 등을 할 수 있는 부스도 설치된다. 더불어 밤 늦게까지 밴드나 가수들이 초대되어 공연이 펼쳐지기도 한다. 또한 축제 기간에는 학교 안에서 음식도 판매된다. 온갖 길거리 음식들이 판매되고 일일 주점을 통해 술도 판매된다. 각 과별로 음식을 사 먹을 수 있는 쿠폰을 판매해서 그 수익금을 생활이 어려운 학생들의 장학금으로 전달하기도 한다. 축제는 또한 학교 동기들, 교수님들, 그리고 졸업생들까지 애교심을 키울 수 있는 좋은 계기가 된다.
