Frequent reports about abuse leveled against animals have caused a stir in society. Some examples are unspeakable acts against animals or pet abandonment. With more people looking out for animals, there are more animal protection groups that look after abandoned animals. More people are doing volunteer work at animal shelters, and pet adoption campaigns are on the rise. There is also an increased demand for stronger animal protection laws with heavier penalties for animal abuse than the current level.
