In Korea, it’s typical for people to offer money gifts for special occasions like weddings or funerals. For a wedding, it is called congratulatory money. For a funeral, it is called condolatory money. We put the money in a white envelope with our names on it. The envelope is dropped off at the entrance of a wedding hall or a funeral parlor. Normally, we keep a record of the amount of money we receive from the guests. Then, we normally give back the same amount to them at similar occasions in the future. You normally offer more money depending on how close you are.
