Talk about the typical housing culture in Korea.
In major Korean cities where the population density is high, apartments far outnumber stand-along houses. People live in shared living spaces, with many households grouped together. Most people take off their shoes indoors. People wear socks or go barefoot. The most unique aspect of Korean homes is the heated floors. The heating system heats up the floor. Heat comes up from the bottom, warming up the air inside. Most bathrooms in Korea have drains in the floor so that water can drain out. It’s convenient for hosing down the bathroom, but sometimes people lose their footing and fall. Since there are so many apartments without separate yards or gardens, many households keep potted plants on the balcony. Most households are in possession of at least one car, so apartment buildings have several underground floors for parking

인구 밀도가 높은 한국 대도시에는 단독 주택보다 아파트의 비중이 훨씬 높다. 여러 가구가 한곳에 모여 공동 거주 공간에서 생활한다. 집안에 들어서면 대부분 신발을 벗고 생활한다. 실내에서는 양말을 신기도 하고, 맨발로 생활하기도 한다. 한국식 주택의 가장 독특한 특징은 온돌바닥이다. 난방 시설이 방바닥을 데운다. 열이 아래에서 올라와서 실내 공기를 데어는 방식이다. 한국의 화장실은 물이 바닥에 흐를 수 있도록 배수구가 설치되어 있다. 물을 뿌려 청소하기에 편리하지만, 화장실에서 미끄러져 넘어지는 사고가 발생하기도 한다. 개별 마당이나 정원이 없는 아파트가 많다 보니, 베란다에 화분을 키우는 집들이 많다. 차량을 최소 한 대 소유하고 있는 가구가 대부분이어서, 아파트들은 여러 층의 지하 주차장을 갖추고 있다.
