(Terry is talking to David at work…)
Terry: Did you get your car fixed?
David: Yes I did.
Terry: What was wrong with it again?
David: My air conditioning.
Terry: What did it cost you?
David: It set me back almost $1000.
Terry: Wow! Well, it's good you got it fixed now. Summer is around the corner.
David: That's true. But it sure put a dent in my wallet.
Terry: You'll appreciate it when the summer temperatures reach 100 degrees.
David: You speak the truth.
set someone back
This is why comic book cafes are all the rage among young people as great date destinations. Sometimes they are packed with young people and you can’t get in right away. As icing on the cake, even the fees won’t set you back much.
The valet parking fee is also low, so it won’t set you back very much. Hotels offer a valet parking service, too. However, the prices are a bit steep.
The food is delicious, but it will set you back a bit.
It won't set you back too much if you buy it on sale.
