He also brought about scientific and institutional advancements in all corners of society. Korea was prosperous under his reign. Admiral Yi Sun-Shin was one of the greatest naval leaders of all time. He fought off a Japanese invasion. He led the way in modernizing the Korean navy. He was victorious in many battles. However, he was killed in action while fighting against the Japanese invaders. We commemorate King Sejong and Admiral Yi Sun-Shin in many ways. Statues of them have been erected in Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul. Their faces are also on Korean bank notes and coins.
