Sometimes it's wise to be direct.

(Two friends are having lunch…)
Alice: I really don't know how to break the news to you.
Kathy: Just tell me the truth. I won't take it personally.
Alice: Well, I'm afraid you'll lose control of yourself.
Kathy: Sometimes it's wise to be direct. Don't beat around the bush. Tell me.
Alice: Okay, here it is.
Kathy: What's the truth?
Alice: We've won two free tickets to Hawaii for seven days.
Kathy: What?! Are you serious?
Alice: I'm very serious.
Kathy: I'm glad you weren't putting me on.
