A big part of Korean tradition is based on Confucian culture. It has an influence on many parts of life. Age is very important. There is a strict age hierarchy. That's why people usually are interested in each other's age. Even if the age difference is just one or two years, the younger person is expected to show respect. In the past, it was unusual for a woman to date a younger man. That was because it was the norm for a guy to be older than the girl. However, this is no longer the case. The age difference is no big deal in romantic relationships. Still, in all other aspects of society, age is a key factor in relationships in Korea.

한국의 전통 문화는 상당 부분 유교 문화에 바탕을 두고 있다. 이는 생활의 다방면에 영향을 미친다. 나이는 매우 중요하다, 엄격한 나이 서열이 있다. 그래서 사람들이 서로의 나이에 관심이 많다. 나이 차이가 1년 혹은 2년만 돼도 더 어린 사림이 상대방을 존중해야 한다. 과거에는 여자가 연하의 남자와 사귀는 것이 흔한 일이 아니었다. 남자가 나이가 많은 경우가 일반적이었기 때문이다. 하지만 이제는 더 이상 그렇지 않다. 이성 관계에서 나이 차이가 그리 큰 문제가 아니다. 그래도, 한국 사회의 모든 면에서 나이는 여전히 인간 관계의 주요 요소 중 하나다.
